NMC, NIT sports complexes waiting to see sunrise despite ready to greet students

The NMC and NIT, it seems, have not found a “heavy hand” yet to open the sports complexes and dedicate them to public. The new academic session has already been started and the students have been participating in various sports activities. Now, they need proper facilities like the sports complexes.

Nagpur News: Two sports complexes, constructed by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), are waiting and waiting to see the sunrise. The NMC and NIT, it seems, have not found a “heavy hand” yet to open the sports complexes and dedicate them to public. The new academic session has already been started and the students have been participating in various sports activities. Now, they need proper facilities like the sports complexes.

The sports complexes are fully ready to welcome the students. But the attitude of NMC and NIT authorities looks like unsportsmanship and, puzzling, too. The NMC’s sports complex in Vikas Nagar has been almost complete with one or two finishing works. The Ward Corporator Sandeep Joshi strived hard to complete construction of the sports complex by keeping the concerned officials on tenterhooks. Some finishing works could have been completed even after opening the complex for the students.

However, recently a “naming game” was played by the all concerned personalities. Several political and social outfits opposed naming of the sports complex after the late Gangadhar Fadnavis. This “game” put hurdles in speedy construction of the sports complex and, subsequently, the opening of the sports complex. However, the “naming game” could not snowball into a major controversy as MLA Devendra Fadnavis himself requested that the complex should not be named after his father. Now, the way is cleared for dedicating the sports complex but for reasons better known to NMC, the sports complex is waiting for a “hand” to open it in fanfare.

The state of affairs of another sports complex built in place of Nidham Park are more baffling than the first sports complex. The NIT-constructed sports complex got the shape by the untiringly efforts of South Nagpur MLA Dinanath Padole. Padole struggled hard to convince the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan the need of a sports complex in his constituency, and succeeded, too. The Chief Minister was supposed to open and dedicate the sports complex in April. But, May, June, July gone still no sign of any visible activity to open the sports complex for public.

The Nagpur citizens have been a surprised lot! Why the NMC and the NIT, generally witnessed going for publicity stunt on every public-oriented schemes, are not going ahead and missing the bus for a chance to hog limelight.

The NMC and NIT must open the sports complexes for public, specifically for students, as soon as possible without waiting for a “heavy hand” to open the powerful places. No “games.”
