VHA ready for 1st all India hockey meet

Vidarbha Hockey Association has made all the necessary arrangements and is ready to host the 1st VHA-Nagpur All India Gold Cup Hockey Tournament at its Amravati Road ground. The tournament will be held under the auspices of Hockey India. The two lush green grounds are heavily rolled and marked properly for the April 20 opener. Top teams from all over the country will be taking part in the tournament which carries a total prize money of Rs 1.75 lakh.
The winner of the tournament will be richer by Rs One lakh while the runners-up team will pocked Rs 50,000. The third placed team will have to satisfy with a purse of Rs 25,000. Three glittering trophies will also be given to the podium finishers.

The teams will start arriving from Friday.
The tournament will be inaugurated by Shri GB Indurkar, Additional Commissioner, Sales Tax, Nagpur Zone on April 20 at 7.30 am. Shri DC Garg, CMD, Western Coalfields Limited, Nagpur will be the guest of honour.

VHA President BC Bhartia, Secretary, Vinod Gawai, Treasurer Ghanshyam Purohit, Joint Secretary Bhaskar Naidu and all executive members of VHA will remain present.

The tournament will be played as per FIH Rules and organising committee’s decision will be final and binding to all teams.

Meanwhile. Central Railway Headquarters, Mumbai pulled out of the tournament at the last minute citing poor show at the recently held All India inter-railway tournament. A top team from Rajnandgaon replaced the Mumbai team.
Other teams taking part in the meet are Chennai XI, Range Police Nagpur, Northern Railways from Lucknow, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy (Bhopal), Pomposh from Rourkela, South Central Railway from Secundrabad, Divakar Hockey Academy from Katni (MP), Sports Authority of India from Sundergarh (Orissa) Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), from Bhilai, DHA, Akola, DHA, Jalgaon, DHA, Gondia, DHA Aurangabad and DHA Chandrapur. VHA Senior Division Champions, South East Central Railway, runners-up Dhyanchand Academy and Eagle Sporting will also be taking part in this prestigious tournament.

Hockey India’s Ashutosh Verma has been appointed as the Tournament Director. Virendra Singh will be the Umpires’ Manager.

Other officials include Mohd Fahim, Danny Kinny, Avinash Shiranpelly, Bhushan Sao, G Harsha Vardhan, Gyanchand Jain, Dhaval Prajapati, Mohd Javed, Feeroz Dad, Umesh Bhine, Arnold Xavier, Sadiq Shaikh, informs a release from Vinod Gawai, Secretary, VHA. Similarly, city’s six national as well as state-level umpires would also officiate in the tournament. Rajesh Bihari, who was the Tournament Director of the recently held Inter-Railway Hockey Tournament, at Kapurthala, Ravi Francis, Satish Fulsunge, Virendra Baghel, Shahid Sheikh and Rajkumar Jha will also be officiating in the tournament.

Nagpur News : South East Central Railway (SECR), Dhyanchand Academy, Nagpur, Eagle Sporting, Nagpur and Range Police Nagpur defeated their respective rivals to move into the second round on the opening day of the 1st VHA-Nagpur All India Gold Cup Hockey Tournament on Sunday. The tournament is organized by Vidarbha Hockey Association under the auspices of Hockey India.

In the inaugural match, Shadab Khan scored three goals as VHA Senior Division champion South East Central Railway (SECR) thrashed District Hockey Association (DHA) Akola 8-3. Both the teams were locked at 2-2 at half-time.

SECR took the lead in the 7th minute through Dalbir Singh who converted a penalty stroke. In the 28th minute Shadab Khan scored first of his three goals to make it 2-0. But Akola scored two quick goals in two minutes to draw parity. Sumit Yadav first scored in the 32nd minute and two minutes later again sounded the board to change the ends on equal terms.

However in the second session, SECR scored four goals in space of nine minutes to take the match away from Akola. Mohd Shahid (38th) scored third and three minutes later Shadab scored his second goal in 41st. A minute later, Irshad Mirza scored the fifth goal for the railmen. Sheikh Imran added another to his team kitty and Shadab completed his hat-trick in the 56th. Ankit Bihari sealed the match’s fate scoring second before the final hooter.

Mayur Nimbalkar scored the third goal for his side in the 50th minute.

In second match, Shubham Shendre scored a fine hat-trick to help Eagle Sporting drub DHA Chandrapur 13-0. Shendre scored three goals in space of five minutes. Eagle Sporting dominated the game right from the beginning and scored goals at will. The goal scoring spree started in the 4th minute when captain Gunanand Jha converted a penalty corner. From then on there was no looking back for the Nagpur team as they pumped in five goals in first 35 minutes.

Shendre then hogged the limelight in the second half first converting a penalty stroke in 52nd minute. He slammed the board again two minutes later converting a penalty corner and then completed his hat-trick in 56th minute scoring a field goal.

In the afternoon session, Ganesh Patre scored a hat-trick to give Range Police a huge 8-2 win over District Hockey Association Gondia.

Patre slammed the board in the second half (42nd, 46th and 47th) minute. Amit Yesur scored a brace in 6th and 59th (PC) minute. The other goal scorers for Range Police were Zafar Abdul (47th), Amol Kharambe (63rd) and Rahul Kalambe (67th).

In the last match of the day, Dhyanchand Academy, Nagpur defeated Jalgaon 7-2. Rahul Suryawanshi (4th), Shrikant Kalakoti (14th), Shahbaz Pathan (28th (PC), 43rd), Rahul Kalakoti (33rd, 49th, 68th) bt Jalgaon 2 Shakir Sheikh (40th) Shakir Khan (58th).

Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by GB Indurkar, Additional Commissioner, Sales Tax, Nagpur Zone, Nagpur. DC Garg, CMD, Western Coalfields Limited, Nagpur presided over the function. VHA president BC Bhartia, secretary Vinod Gawai, Vice-president Unnat Khanna, treasurer Ghanshyam Purohit, joint secretary Bhaskar Naidu, Deven Dasture, Satish Fulsunge, DV Talewar and other members were present. The function was conducted by Ravi James while Naresh Sawaitul proposed a vote of thanks.

NR Railway lucknow vs Divakar Academy Katni

Nagpur News : Sports Authority of India (SAI), Sundergarh (Orissa), Maharashtra XI, Rajnandgaon and Northern Railway, Lucknow registered big wins to move into the second round of 1st VHA-Nagpur All India Gold Cup Hockey Tournament, on Monday.The tournament is organised under the aegis of Hockey India.

While SAI, Sundergarh thrashed Steel Authority of India (SAIL), Bhilai 6-0, Maharashtra XI ripped apart Aurangabad to record a whopping 13-0 win.

SAI Sundergarh will now meet Range Police Nagpur on Tuesday morning while Maharashtra XI will take on Eagle Sporting in the afternoon session.

In the evening session, Rajnandgaon defeated Madhya Pradesh Academy, Bhopal 3-2 while Northern Railway Lucknow thrashed Divakar Academy, Katni 5-2.

Nagpur News :  Dhyanchand Hockey Academy, Nagpur kept city’s flag flying high on a day where other local teams suffered contrasting defeats as they stunned Northerm Railway, Lucknow 4-3 via tie breaker (full time 1-1) to storm into the quarter-finals of the 1st All India VHA-Nagpur Gold Cup Hockey Tournament organized by Vidarbha Hockey Association at its ground. The tournament is held under the aegis of Hockey India.

Other local teams, Range Police and Eagle Sporting suffered contrasting defeats.
While SAI Sundergarh defeated Range Police 2-0, Maharashtra XI thrashed Eagle Sporting 14-3 to move into the quarter-finals.

Nagpur News : South East Central Railway (SECR) Nagpur and Maharashtra XI defeated their respective rivals to move into the semi-finals of the 1st All India VHA-Nagpur Gold Cup Hockey Tournament on Wednesday. The tournament is organized by Vidarbha Hockey Association and is being held under the aegis of Hockey India.

In the first quarter-final of the day, SECR Nagpur thrashed Rajnandgaon 6-2. At the half time the city railmen were leading by 2-1.

For SECR Irshad Mirza (2nd, 61st), Sheikh Imran (31st PC), Shadab Khan (43rd), Karan Kushwaha (57th, 69th) scored while Naveen Tirkey (4th) and Rajesh Nimbalkar (44th) reduced the margin for Rajnandgaon.

In the second quarter-final, Maharashtra XI rallied to beat South Central Railway, Secundrabad 5-4 in an edge of the seat encounter. At half-time both the teams were locked at 2-2.

Nagpur News : Sports Authority of India, Sundergarh (Orissa) and Sports Hostel, Pomposh, Rourkela defeated their respective rivals to storm into the semi-final of the 1st All India VHA-Nagpur Gold Cup Hockey Tournament organised by Vidarbha Hockey Association at its Amravati Road ground. The tournament is being held under the aegis of Hockey India.

In the 3rd quarter-final, SAI Sundergarh defeated Chennai XI 5-4 via tie breaker after both the teams were locked at 3-3 at the end of regulation time.

In the 4th quarter-final, Sports Hostel, Pomposh, Rourkela stunned VHA Senior Division runners-up Dhyanchand Hockey Academy 2-1.

In the first semi-final to be played on Friday, Maharashtra XI will lock horns with SAI, Sundergarh while VHA Senior Division Champions South East Central Railway (SECR) will meet Sports Hostel, Pomposh, Rourkela.

The first semi-final will be played at 2.30 pm followed by second semi-final at 4 pm.

Nagpur News : South East Central Railway (SECR) Nagpur will take on Sports Authority of India, Sundergarh in the final of the 1st All India VHA-NAGPUR Gold Cup Hockey Tournament organised by Vidarbha Hockey Association at its ground. The tournament is being organised under the aegis of Hockey India.
In the fist semi-final, SAI, Sundergarh pipped Maharashtra XI by a solitary goal while VHA Senior Division Champions SECR thrashed Sports Hostel, Rourkela 4-1.

PK Agrawal, Joint Commissioner, Sales Tax, Nagpur Division, Nagpur was the chief guests of the semi-finals on Friday.

The final will be played at 3.30 pm on Saturday after the third place match between Maharashtra XI and Sports Hostel Rourkela which will be played at 2 pm.

OLYMPIAN ASHOK KUMAR TO GRACE PRIZE DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION

Three-time Olympian and 1975 World Cup winning player Ashok Kumar will grace the prize distribution function of the 1st All India VHA-Nagpur Gold Cup Hockey Tournament. Shyam Wardhane, Municipal Commissioner, Nagpur will be the chief guest of the final.

VHA president BC Bhartia, secretary Vinod Gawai, vice president Unnat Khanna, Arif Khan, Joint Secretary Bhaskar Naidu, treasurer Ghanshyam Purohit, Ravi Francis, Ravi James, Harish Sisodia, DV Talewar, Sushil Masram and other members will also remain present.

Ashok Kumar, son of legendary Major Dhyanchand, has played three World Cups (1971, 1973, 1975), and two Olympics at Munich and Montreal. Ashok Kumar is recipient of in 1974 and is presently working as Director of Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy, Bhopal.

Nagpur News : South East Central Railway (SECR), Nagpur stamped their authority with a clinical display to clinch the 1st All India VHA-Nagpur Gold Cup Hockey Tournament on Saturday evening. The tournament was organized by Vidarbha Hockey Association under the aegis of Hockey India.

SECR, the VHA Senior Division Champions, defeated a young and promising team from Sports Authority of India (SAI) Sundergarh (Orissa) 2-1 in an absorbing final.

At the half-time both the teams were locked at 1-1.

It was the Orissa based team who took the lead against the run of play in the 27th minute through their most dependable forward Sushil Ekka. But the railmen used all their experience to negate the lead at draw parity a minute before half-time.Shadab Khan, who was left unmarked at the top of the circle, received a long ball captain Sheikh Imran and he made no mistake in slotting the ball home beating Orissa goal-keeper Ajay Kandulna.

Four minutes later, SECR captain himself scored the winner for his side from a beautiful field goal. Despite trailing, Orissa continued to play a calm and composed game. They got several chances but were denied by some tough SECR defending. SECR goal-keeper Chandan Singh too made some breathtaking saves in entire match. Similarly, defenders Dheeraj Wagh, Nisaruddin, Mohd Shahid too were excellent.

For SAI Sundergarh, Santosh Majhi, Sunam Beck, Antuni Kido, Tikie Kujur showed excellent skills.

Earlier in the hardline final, Sports Hostel Pomposh, Rourkela defeated Maharashtra XI 2-0. Suraj Minz scored in the 59th minute and Thouphil Kujur then converted a penalty stroke in 64th minute.

Arjuna Awardee and Olympian Ashok Kumar was the chief guest of the final and also gave away the prizes. VHA President BC Bhartia presided over. VHA secretary Vinod Gawai, vice-presidents Unnat Khanna, Arif Khan, Kirtiwardhan Dixit, joint secretary Bhaskar Naidu, treasurer Ghanshyam Purohit, Harish Sisodia, Abid Khan, Sajid Pathan, DV Talewar, Farooq Akbani, Vilas Totade also shared the dais.

Ravi James conducted the programme while Naresh Sawaitul proposed a vote of thanks.

Nagpur News: Department of Physical Education, RTMNU, is organizing coaching camp in Athletics, Basketball, Volleyball, Archery, Shooting and Handball at its Sports Complex from May 5, 2014.

International Athlete and Distance Runner Sharad Suryawanshi will impart training in Athletics Events to aspiring students. Similarly, International Handball player Inderjeet Singh Randhawa  and Dr Lalita Awachat will coach Handball students while Chhatrapati Shivaji awardee & former State players Pankaj Deshmukh, Sonal Kavde-Deshmukh, and former Central Railway & Maharashtra player Pradeep Mukherjee will render their services in training students in Basketball. The Volleyball students will be coached by Dr Ashok Kapta, Archery students by Sanjay Kahurke and Shooting students will be trained by Anil Pande.

The camp is open to all boys and girls in age group of 8-16 years and First Year college students. The campers will also be introduced to self-defence activities of various kinds. No fees will be charged. The interested students will have to register their names with Office of Director of Physical Education, Dr Laxminarayan Campus, Near Law College Square, Ravi Nagar, Nagpur, during office hours along with two passport-sized photographs before May 1, 2014.

The timing of the camp will be from 7 am to 8 am and 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm. Nagpur News : As a part of throughout development of the city, the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) is concentrating on development sports infrastructure in the city and for that the NIT authorities has chalked out a plan that was revealed by its chairman Praveen Darade while interacting with the members of Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) at its Vivekanand Nagar office on Saturday.

Darade who himself was a good athlete in his school and college days said, ” As far as sports is concerned it is out top priority. We want to create maximum sports facility for the citizens so that they could give the importance to physical fitness”. taking a step towards development of sports, NIT has identified 75 open places in the city which will be developed in future. It will have playfield, walking track, changing rooms, high mast lights. ” Once developed we will handover the ground to the interested sports organisations on 15 years lease basis”, Darade said.

He said NIT is planning to build one indoor sports complex worth Rs 3 crore in south, north, east and west Nagpur areas and one already has started at Swablambi Nagar. About the renovation of NIT swimming pool, Darade informed that NIt will spend around Rs 13 crore on its renovation. Apart from swimming it will have additional facilities of two squash courts, gymnasium, hall for table tennis and carrom and ozone plant. ” We have already floated the tender and the work will start soon”, he said.

Asked about the status of synthetic track at divisional sports complex premises, Darade said, ” As the earlier contractor was sacked for not maintaining the deadline, we ourselves had urged the divisional commissioner to handover the work to NIT as we have qualified staff to look after day to day progress. I am hopeful that within one year the work of synthetic track will be completed”.

Asked about its maintenance The NIT chief said, ” To earn the money is not our air. The primary motive is to provide the facilities to the sportspersons at affordable rates and for that we will also study the Balewadi model. In fact we are talking to divisional sports complex authorities to handover entire complex and surrounding area to NIT for its maintenance”.

Darade also informed that the NIt has handover the Ram Nagar tennis court to Nagpur Improvement Trust and now they will continue the lease to the district tennis association. NIT will also lay 400 metre mud track as Reshimbagh ground and its Gandhi Nagar skating rink will be made synthetic in future.

Superintendent engineer of NIT Sunil Gujjalwar, NDBA secretary Mangesh Kashikar and Nagpur District Athletic Association secretary Prof. Sharad Suryavanshi were also present on the occasion.

Nagpur News: The Nagpur District Football Association (NDFA) league for 2014-15 is all set to kick off from June 8. In lieu with the increasing popularity of football in the Orange City, a total of five divisions have been declared to be a part of the next local football season.

In another development, the transfers window and dates for induction of new players into the league have also been declared. The new format of the league will witness five break-ups, namingly Elite Division, Super Division, Senior Division, First Division and Junior Division in decreasing order of precedence. The Elite Division will comprise of 10 top-flight teams set to fight it out for the top-most honour in the city, as decided in a recently held league committee meeting. Nagpur Football Club, Young Iqbal, Rabbani Club, Young Muslim, Rahul Sankritayan Club, Nagpur Academy , Divisional Sports Association Central Railway, South Eastern Central Railway, Nagpur City Police and Nagpur Range Police have been inducted as first-class teams into the most prestigious of all groups. Meanwhile Nagpur Blues, New Globe, Anjuman Sports Club, Big Ben, Rahul Brothers, Qidwai Football Club, XI Star, Ansar Sporting, Shakti Sporting and Eagle Sporting are the 10 teams that will lock horns in the second-tier league called the Super Division. Below the top two set of teams lies the Senior Division which will feature as many as 12 teams. Taj Sporting, Al-Aziz Sports Club, Nagpur City Club, Central Railway Institute, Young Iqbal “B”, IFFC, Orange City, Gondwana, Hansraj Sporting, SRPF Hingna, Iqbal Club and Nagpur Star will take the field out to prove their mettle in this division.

The under-21 teams will formulate the first division while the under-19 lads will be a part of the Junior Division of NDFA’s plans for the next season. Sports veterans Iqbal Kashmiri, Eugyn Norbert and Abdul Bari will be conveners for the top three leagues respectively. Also taking charge for the First Division will be Mohd Javed Rana and Mohd Mubeen for the Junior Division. Stanley Gregory will convene proceedings for the College League and Atmaram Pande has been assigned similar duties for the School Division. As far as the eves are concerned, Moril D”melo and Shalini Ragde have been assigned responsibilities for the Women’s League.

The pre-season transfer period has started on Monday and will continue till May 10. Whereas the forms for registrations of new players will be distributed on May 12, the last date of submission being May 30. Moreover, the NDFA Executive Committee has also announced sub-committees to ensure the smooth running of the events in the season calendar. Nagpur News: “Sports are not just a physical drill for exercise but a career can also be molded through sports. Parents should not limit their wards to only summer camps but continuously inspire them for achievement of excellence in sports field,” appealed Maharashtra’s Deputy Director of Sports Dr Jaiprakash Duble on Saturday. He was speaking at a programme organized by Shri Hanuman Vyayam Prasarak Mandal (HVPM) to felicitate sportspersons. The programme, held at 8 am on May 10 in HVPM’s Anant Krida Mandir in Amravati, marked conclusion of Divisional Gymnastics Training Camp and felicitation of winners of 39th Gymnastics Championship. Dr Chandrashekhar Kulkarni, President of Amravati District Amateurs Gymnastics Association, presided over the function.
Other prominent personalities present on the dais include District Sports Officer Avinash Pund, former Principal of DCPE Vasantrao Harne, Prof Madhuritai Chendke, HVPM Secretary Adv Kalpesh Shah, President of District Bar Council Adv Chandrashekhar Dorle, and Dr Subhashchandra Sharma. The programme was conducted by Prof Ashish Hatekar while introduction was made by Chief Coach Prof Sanjay Hirode.
HVPM conducted the Divisional Gymnastics Training Camp from April 15 to May 10. Similarly, 39th Gymnastics Championship was organized from May 6 to 9 with participation of sportspersons trained at the Camp. The meritorious sportspersons of the Championship were awarded trophies and medalson Saturday.

Nagpur News: Aurangabad’s Baktawar Khan emerged Champion of Champion in State Arms Wrestling Championship organized by Amravati Amateurs Arms Wrestling Association. In Women’s Section, Amraviti’s Surabhi Nemade bagged the title. Baktawar defeated Nagpur’s Sijay Verghese while Surabhi Nemade crushed the arm of Chandrapur’s Sakshi Dabre. Similarly, the General Team Championship title was bagged by Nagpur District Association in Men Section while Amravati District emerged runners up. In Women Section, Amravati District won the Team Championship and the Chandrapur District finished runners up. The tournament was conducted by Maharashtra Arms Wrestling Association recently.
The two-day State Arms Wrestling Championship was inaugurated by Navnit Kaur Rana while former Amravati Mayor Vilas Ingle presided. General Secretary of Maharashtra Arms Wrestling Association Prof Shrikant Varankar and other prominent personalities were present on the occasion. Prize distribution was done at the hands of MLA Anil Bonde. The Chief Guest of the Tournament was Manoj Wasnik, Director of PWS College, B.C.Borkat ,  Leo Franswa president and treasurer of bahujanwadi Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar krida mandal, Bezonbag, Nagpur and Y M Shyamkuwar were the guests present on the Dias. The Tournament was inaugurated by Manoj Wasnik who played the 1st move and declared the tournament Open.

The Chief Arbiter of the Tournament was Anurag Singh, Assisted byUmesh Lalwani and Dipesh Lalwani.

Another Main Attraction of the tournament was Ku . Kanak Dhanvijay (age– 5 years) who was the Youngest Player of the Tournament. She scored one point out of 2 games on the day one of the Tournament.

Nagpur News : Three Day 26th Inter- Company Kabaddi Championship 2013-14 Coal India held at Savanera Stadium in Nagpur of WCL from May 15-17. All seven Subsidiaries of Coal India participated in the competition. The competition was inaugurated by WCL Director (Personnel), Rupak Dayal.

Dinesh Chandra Garg, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, WCL was the Chief Guest at the prize distribution ceremony. While addressing on the occasion Shri Garg said that games are organised to keep manpower healthy so that they contribute with full zeal gaiety. Shri Garg also called upon the new players to participate in all games. He also advised veteran players to guide and develop new players in future. He said that participation in game is more important then winning. He congratulated the winner team of WCL.

WCL team won the trophy and SECL team was runner up among all the teams. Both the winner teams were felicitated with the trophy by Shashi Garg, President Jhankar Mahila Mandal & D. C. Garg, CMD, WCL

The welcome speech given by WCL Director (Personnel), Shri Rupak Dayal and vote of thanks was given by Area General Manager,Nagpur Area Shri M.K. Majumdar. Directors of WCL, Shri Om Prakash, Director (Technical/Operations), Shri Rupak Dayal, Director(Personnel & Finance), Shri S S Malhi, Director(Tech.P&P) were present with their spouses. Members of Steering Committee, WCL Welfare Board Members, All Area General Managers, all HODs, and large number of staff were prominently present on the occasion.

3 Nagpur girls for Junior Nationals

Three city girls — Mugdha Amraotkar, Maithili Pantawane and Antra Mehta  — have been selected to represent Maharashtra in the forthcoming National Junior (U-18) Basketball Championship slated to be held at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Ernakullam, Kerala, from May 26 to June 2.

The National Championship for boys and girls has been organized by Basketball Federation of India (BFI) to pick the Indian team for the FIBA Asia Championship slated to be played in the later part of the year.

While Mugdha – city’s second international player – and Maithili are members of Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM), Antra practices at the Saraswati Kanya Sangh (SKS) courts.

After the six-day preparatory camp held at the Father Agnel School’s courts in Vashi, Navi Mumbai all the three city cagers have been included in the state squad for the National Tourney.

It may be mentioned here that in the selection tournament of Maharashtra State Inter-District Basketball Championship held at Aurangabad the Nagpur girls’ team finished as runners-up.

The 12-member Maharashtra team will depart for the National Championship from Mumbai on May 24. Pune’s Lalit Nahata has been named as head coach of Maharashtra girls’ team.

The President of Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA) Sandip Joshi, Secretary NDBA Shatrughna Gokhale, Treasurer of Maharashtra State Basketball Association (MSBA) Anup Rajurkar and all the district officials lauded the achievements of all the three city players and wished them luck for their endeavour.

The Team from Maharashtra (Girls) include Shruthi Menon, Saaz Karindikar, Ishwari Pingle, Rupali Tripathi, Suyosha Shetty (all Pune), Mugdha Amraotkar, Antra Mehta, Maithili Pantawane (all Nagpur), Rutuja Kulkarni, Charmi Bhagat (both Mumbai North), Tanvi Dabhade (Thane) and Rachel Netto (Mumbai Central)

Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana-A (SNG-A) made a mockery of Pande Layout Sports Club (PLSC) boys when they carved out a resounding victory against PLSC by a margin of 51-9 in the Sub-Junior Invitational Basketball Championship organized by Jain International School at Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana on Saturday. In the one-sided game, SNG-A’s Rohit Paranjape scored 18 points while Sumedh Nipane scored 8 points. In another dull match, Nutan Bharat Yuvak Sangh-A (NBYS-A) drubbed Gundewar Sports Club by 52-0 points.

In the Girls section, Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana-B belittled the PLSC girls by winning their match with scores standing 34-2 on the board. Vastavi Jagtap was top scorer.

The Invitational Basketball Championship organized by Jain International School at Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana (SNG) on May 26, 2014 saw some avid action by the contesting players. SNG-A (Girls) and NBYS-A (Boys) won the championship with their superb game. The Director of Jain International School Anuj Badjate was the chief guest along with other dignitaries of the school management. A student of Jain International School presented a beautiful song that outlined the beauty of sports in the lives of the students.

What a match it was! Nutan Bharat Yuva Sangh-A (NBYS-A) beat Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana-A (SNG-A) with the score 44-28. Ramnath Nayak was top scorer. He scored 14 points. The audience enjoyed the game till the last.

Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana-A (SNG-A) beat Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana-B (SNG-B) with the 34-8 margin. It was a one sided match all the way.
